With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you may be wondering how you’ll avoid the awkwardness that can come with wearing clear aligners. While they’re virtually transparent, making them difficult to see, you’ll need to take them out before you start eating or drinking. When it comes to dating with Invisalign, here are three things to remember that will help you enjoy your evening out without compromising your smile or special time with your significant other.

You Can Remove Your Aligners Discreetly

Whether it’s your first date or fifth, the other person may not know you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. If you’re not quite ready to make them aware of this reality, you’ll need to find a way to remove your aligners before sitting down for a meal. Excusing yourself to go to the restroom is certainly one way of handling the situation, giving you the privacy you need to put your trays in a protective case, slip them in your purse, and return to the table with ease.

Wearing Invisalign is Less Noticeable Than Metal Braces

Even if you’re not ready for your date to notice your clear aligners, they might, and if they do, it’s okay! It’s important to remember that Invisalign is far less noticeable than traditional metal braces. In fact, your treatment might be a great conversation starter! Not only will it help break the ice, but it can also be a great way for you to feel more confident about your treatment.

You know Invisalign will lead to beautiful results but acknowledging your commitment when spurred by someone else can help you further appreciate the process and investment you’re making in your smile.

Keeping Aligners Clean Will Minimize Bad Breath

The last thing you want to happen on a date is for the other person to cringe or sit further away when you talk. While it may not be the alignment of your teeth that causes them to react, it could be that your breath leaves much to be desired.

If you’re not cleaning your trays correctly, bacteria can develop and transfer onto your teeth. As a result, it can spread and lead to a foul odor each time you open your mouth. To avoid this, you’ll need to properly clean your trays after every meal as well as in the morning and before going to bed. There are specialized cleaning crystals that can help to eliminate harmful particles, or you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush, clear soap, and lukewarm water.

Don’t let your Invisalign treatment keep you at home. Enjoy a night out with your special someone while working toward a straighter, healthier smile.
